Wells-next-the-Sea

Wells-next-the-sea sits on the edge of the North Norfolk coast, it has the most stunning views of big blue skies, sunsets, and miles of glorious sandy beaches. Quirky, but colourful old fashioned beach huts dot against a back drop of pine trees, a photographers dream.

Not only is Wells is a great seaside town for all the family to visit, it is a great place to live in, with its quaint narrow streets, tiny yards and characteristic buildings. Small shops are dotted along the quay & along Staithe Street, selling everything from bucket & spades, floppy hats, ice cream, stripy rock, fresh produce, books, clothes , shoes & trendy gifts. Wells has a good  fine library, with internet connects for those wishing to keep up with the latest news & information. There's also a bank, post office, dentist, doctors and cottage hospital.

The harbour is busy with small fishing boats, on the tide local  fishermen can be seen bringing home their daily catch of crabs & fish. Leisure boats moor against pontoons, and its a picture to see the sailing boats in full sail on a breezy day.  On the quay children dangle their legs over the side as they catch ‘gillies‘ small crabs, (no-one ever falls in)!!  Naturally in summer  families head for the beach, sandcastles and kites are dotted about.

From yummy ice-cream to fish n’ chips, shrimps and cockles, arcades, the Beach Road Playing Field  with its latest addition called  Bounty, a fantastic wooden play boat, made and installed by a local volunteer group, not to be missed, (hardly can be missed due to its size!) & the miniature rail train running to & from the beach, there is lots to have & do!

Good food!!
The Buttlands is a lovely open village green, lined with Lime trees,  Georgian & Victorian Houses, with two friendly up market pubs serving great ales & good home made food, all the pubs & restaurants in Wells support local produce. Tried & tested is a 2010  new Cafe/ Bistro called Wallys  www.wallyscafe.co.uk which opened in Freeman Street, it can be highly recommended for its superb breakfast, light lunches and special evening menus.

What Holiday Guide readers voted Wells as the second best holiday destination in Britain, for its local community spirit & friendliness, and if you have seen Kingdom, that about wraps it up!
No wonder that the area is like a magnet, we find that visitors make return visits year after year, never seeming to tire of Wells & its neighbouring villages.

Wells is in  an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and nearby are Titchwell & Cley nature reserves the birdwatchers paradise.
